Teaching Art History Can Be Cool and Easy With These Easy Tips
A cool down zone, also known as a peace zone, calm down zone, or quiet zone, is a designated area where autistic children can go when they feel too upset or overwhelmed. This is usually in the school yard or at a sit-down lunch room. The idea behind this is that it is an area where autistic children can be without the constant stimulation that can trigger their autistic behaviors. This helps them to calm down and get back to a more normal state. As a matter of fact, many autistic children report that they find comfort in this type of area. Unfortunately, most schools do not allow the use of these areas on the playground, which can cause some problems.
Schools generally have a lot of kids running around a classroom, and this causes a lot of distractions for all of the students. Because they are so loud and disruptive, the teacher has to put in a lot of overtime just to keep up with them. This causes her to be more tired, which will cause her to let her class down. When this happens, the teacher does not get sufficient rest, and she cannot give her students the attention they need to learn effectively.
A calm zone is perfect for this situation because it provides an area where the teacher can take a break, where she can focus on teaching the class, without getting distracted by her students. There are many different techniques that can be used in a classroom to create a calming spot, such as using soothing music, placing calming objects, or even sitting in a chair that is completely still. A sensory integration technique that is used often in the classroom is eye fixation, in which teachers fixate their eyes on a certain object for several seconds, while counting in a text book. This allows the child to focus their eyes only on the object and gives them a sense of relaxation. While this is a very simple technique, it can really help students calm themselves down.
Once the students have calmed down, the teacher can then begin discussing their feelings. Sometimes, students feel extremely uncomfortable when in a large class with a lot of people talking at once. This is especially true for those who do not understand language well. In a quiet, calm corner, the teacher can talk to these children individually, as they learn to express themselves better. They can also talk about how they feel about what they are reading, or about something in general.
The next step of using a corner of space to create a quiet, calm area is to figure out how to make it into a cool area. This is done by sitting in the spot and blocking out all of the extra noise. Place books or toys at the center of the room, close all the windows, and turn on some relaxing CD’s or music. This will provide the student with a comfortable place to sit, as well as block out the distracting noises outside.
Once the class is started, use slow and deep breathing techniques to bring down your heart rate and calm your emotions. You can do this by simply breathing in through your nose slowly and deeply and exhaling slowly through your mouth. As you exhale, you should focus on releasing all your tension and focusing on a new thought or feeling. Do this for as long as you need to, until you feel your emotions are starting to calm down. You may want to do some more than just take deep breaths, and if possible, sit in a cool area, away from the rest of the class or the television, and focus only on yourself for this exercise.
When you get to the end of your lecture, either go up to the board and use it as a spot to cool down or frequent breaks. Many professors today encourage their students to take frequent breaks during lectures, and many of them encourage their students to use a quiet spot to cool down instead of standing or sitting in the front of the class during lecture. You can choose to do whatever you like, just make sure that you do it consistently during the semester.
These are great ways to help students deal with periods of high anxiety throughout the semester. By making your surroundings as comfortable as possible, you will find it much easier to stay calm. Try not to overdo this though. Even if you have your music turned up really loud, it is not a good idea to keep it turned up so loudly that you cannot hear yourself breathe. Overall, if you can make a few routines in your breathing every day, you will find your life a lot more calm and easy to handle.
